I revisited this gem decades after I first took a glance when I was in grade school...it brought back some wonderful memories...
I love Scott Corbett...he's a wonderful children's author that gave my family a quick jostle into the supernatural when we were young and impressionable.. highly worth reading for the sake of entertainment in childhood...and perhaps a visit when one is much older.

I was scared to death while reading this book...it's a great great book...I'm trying to track down a used copy...
Why oh why are Scott Corbett's books out of print? They were fun to read.
Well, except for this book, which, as I mentioned, scared me in the worst way, ever.
I read this as a young teenager and found it very scary. It should definatly be considered a children's classic, and Scott Corbett books should be brought back in print. It was authors like Scott who paved the way for the likes of R.L. Stine and Dowling. I highly recommend all his books.The Red Room Riddle A Ghost Story
I just read this book. It had been in a school library, and it would have been better for the school to have kept it, and skipped some of the modern books that children read at school. It has a simple but captivating plot, and the three boys in the story have interesting personalities that help the action move along at a fast pace. The house in the story provides great mental imagery too, or are there two houses that furnish those fine ghosts for the boys to encounter? Read it to find out. There are used copies available on .

The illustrations are unusual. They enhance the Halloween atmosphere and add to the suspense in the narrative. Mr. Corbett was a great storyteller and between his writing and the pictures, I rate this as a good old ghost story.
